2019 District Badminton Tournament. The District badminton tournament took place Saturday May 25 with a total of 23 Westwood junior high students taking part. All athletes had an exciting day and in the end, brought back to Westwood school 14 medals. Congratulations to Drew Zimmerman, Ethan Johnstone, Summyr Fudge, Ainsley Linklater, Palakpreet Kaur, Angela Chartrand, Harshan Sidhu, Rudra Patel, Chloe Halcrow, Keanna Beardy, Jasleen Kaur, Siffatpreet Rattan, Jorden Braun, and Sofia Thompson. All athletes represented Westwood school very well and congratulations to all of the students that took part.
During Candian Mental Health Awareness Week, Westwood Students participated the CMHA Tie Dying Event.

Westwood School would welcome the involvement of a parent council, as we did not have representation this past school year. If interested, please watch for meeting notices in June, to start planning for the 2019-20 school year. Your involvement and support will be greatly appreciated. It was an amazing afternoon!!! Students, teachers and families were all there to cheer on our Vikings!!! We had so much to be proud of and we had so much fun in the process!!!
Ms. Steeves hosted the event! Kids and teachers alike were cheering for all of the athletes!!! Westwood students voted and our school mascot has been named Victor the Viking! He made an appearance at the pep rally!

Westwood Students participated as greeters and ushers during the Manitoba Education Consultation & Review at Westwood School.
Artist in the school, Ofield Williams, will be at Westwood School from Monday, April 22 to Friday, May 3, 2019. Kindergarten to grade four will work with Ofield the first week and grades five to eight the second week. Ofield will be working with our students doing breakdancing yoga. The program opens students minds to creative studies and self-exploration. The younger students will be showcasing what they have learned in a performance on Monday, April 29th at 2:45pm. The older students will be showcasing what they have learned at 10:35am on Friday, May 3rd. We are very excited to welcome Ofield to Westwood School.
Westwood School would like send out a thanks to all students who represented our school in the Northern Manitoba Regional Science Fair held in The Pas on April 6th.
Siffat Rattan earned a silver medal in the grade 7/8 Life Science category for her project, "Tool for Detecting DNA". Michelle Coleman earned a gold medal in the grade 5 General Science category for her project, "Water Filters: Finding Clean Water". Michelle also earned Best Overall in the Grade 4-6 General category, as well as Best in Show. Congratulations!

S.A.L.T. is looking for help from the students of Westwood to find fitting name for our new mascot viking!
What we are asking is that each homeroom comes up with two names. Once we have the two suggestions from each homeroom, the S.A.L.T. members will narrow it down to a short list. Bring your suggestions to your classroom teacher this week!
5McCartney had people from the 1950s-1990s! The hairstyles were epic! We also had an old man and a toddler! What a fun day!
Winterfest 2019 was a huge success! Students, staff and volunteers all had a great time! On the last day we celebrated with a hot dog roast. 5 McCartney and 1 Rindall partnered up for the experience. Jigging music was playing as we cooked our hot dogs. When we finished eating, we decided to start jigging in puddles! 😉 A huge thank-you to Ms. Dykun, Ms. Johnston and Mr. Dottin for organizing such a great couple of days
SALT organized a wonderful Sock Hop for grades 2-6! We danced and ate snacks! The best part was that it was Disney Day so everyone was dressed up
5M Beading SessionOur presenter, Valerie shared her creativity and knowledge regarding beading, hides and furs. We made key chains! So much fun!
